One of the ULC’s biggest ministries is ordaining ministers. Many people get ordained simply to perform a friend’s wedding, but some do go on to have a ministry of their own, performing weddings and baptisms, and officiating at funerals. What you may not know is that we have supplies to help you in your ministry. Take some time to browse through our site when you have some time. We have ordained more than 20 million ministers since we were founded. Through the years, we’ve been asked many questions which have helped up understand what information you need to make your ministry more effective. Here are some of the items you can find in our store.
Books for All Faiths
It can be difficult to go to the library or bookstore and find a referential book on a particular faith. We’ve carefully selected books that clearly represent a particular faith and are written by experts. Here’s a sampling of wedding books:
- “Baker’s Wedding Handbook” – a reference for pastors
- “DIY Wedding Ceremony” – choosing the perfect words for the unforgettable day
- “The 5 Love Languages” – building relationships that last
- “The Weddings Vows” – a compilation of wedding vows
- “Handfasting and Wedding Rituals” – steps for performing handfasting
- “By the Power Vested in You” – a guide for ministers on officiating a wedding
Resources for Ministers
Once you’re ready to take your own ministry to another level, you might need some help getting started. Here are some of the books we have chosen to put you on the right track:
- “The World’s Religions” – a crash course on the major religions around the world
- “The Star Book for Ministers” – forms, procedures and guidelines for ministers
- “Prison Ministry” – understanding how to minister to inmates
- “Pastoral Care of the Sick” – a guide to talk to those who are ill
- “Launch” – getting a new church off the ground
- “How to Manage an Effective Religious Organization” – tips for managing your institution
In addition to books, we also have certificates for weddings and credential packages. You’ll also find a guide for funerals and memorials. Our products are not denominational specific. Using our resources, you can blend traditions from multiple faiths to meet the needs of those to whom you minister.
Not Ordained?
Getting ordained to be a minister through the ULC is easy. We welcome all individuals, regardless of faith to become ordained. It’s one simple form that takes just a minute to fill out. Here are some tips:
- Use your legal name, no nicknames as this will invalidate the ordination
- Factual information only
- Double check all spellings, especially your email address, as this is how we contact you
- Don’t submit anyone’s name without their permission
- Animals cannot be ordained
After registration, you receive a confirmation email. If you do not, check your spam folder. You can always email us at help@themonastery.org to see if your ordination was received or not. You can get a letter of good standing to prove your ordination, should that become a necessity. Although we do ordain people as young as 13 years old, you should note that most provinces and territories require the officiant to be at least 18 years old to conduct a legally binding ceremony. Also, plan on getting your ordination about seven to ten days before the wedding if possible.
If you need ceremony ideas or words to say at a wedding, there are many resources available on the website. We have an online minister’s network and online training for our ministers. You’re never alone. We have a broad level of support whether you’re simply officiating at a friend’s wedding or beginning a church in your community.
